The mission of Carver-Edisto Middle School is to provide a safe learning environment conducive to all students with the high expectations for academic excellence.
Team teaching is the centerpiece of our academic program. 6th-grade students are divided into two pods of approximately 100 students in each pod. These small communities give students a strong sense of belonging and allow them to form close ties with their teachers and peers.
Teachers meet daily to plan activities and discuss their students' academic performance needs. Teachers utilize Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) scores, Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS) scores, and Benchmark Tests to organize students into flexible learning groups. Each student compiles and updates a Student Data Notebook to track his/her progress and to set goals. Because middle school students need to explore new activities, ideas, and skills, a variety of classes are offered in order to meet these needs. They include:
- Algebra 1/Pre-Algebra
- English 1
- Keyboarding/Microsoft Office Suite
- Physical Education/Health
- Gateway to Technology
- Publishing/Document Processing
